I too might have to turn in my Jalop-Card...

I have a confession to make. I want an automatic or dual clutch in my next car. I just don't like using a manual every single day. For me manual transmission cars are fun as hell on a curvy back road but for the other 90% of the time, they suck in traffic and when trying to navigate around town. Also they hurt my back. There, I said it.

That's not anti-Jalopy at all, imo. I don't have a license, but even I agree with you. Manuals just seem like too much work in day to day traffic.

I love my Miata. But, when I have to drive into DC and NoVA, I realize that if I did it every day, I'd want a Doppelkupplungsgetriebe(PDK for the uninitiated) to be able to deal with traffic. Everybody will be doing 70 then slow to 15 for a mile and then get to 70 again, repeating continuously. When that's not happening, someone causes a wreck that closes all lanes in both directions.

In terms of navigating, I've never found that to be an issue. Maybe a manual is just not for you. However, iirc, you have a Mini with a screwed up transmission. So, that may be a factor.

In short, Fuck People.

So what you're saying is you don't like having to push pedals with both of your feet?

Exactly why I'd never DD a manual car.

I think you simply don't have the right car. Get a manual with a really light clutch, or a hydraulic clutch, and it will be significantly easier. I have a horribly bad back, and I DD a manual. When I drove an automatic for a month back in november, it wasn't the transmission that helped my back, it was the heated seats that had a "lukewarm" and a "blazing hot" setting to choose from.

The Magnum I'm looking at is only available in auto form, but I'll do a 6 speed swap as soon as I can afford it, and can figure out what needs to be done. TR6060 is the name of the game.

I digress, but I still hold to my original point, you're just driving the wrong car. I mean, the seat could even be wrong for you. The clutch could be too heavy or set wrong. I think there's a reason and it could be improved.

This might be the greatest response post I've ever seen on Jalopnik.

Given the choice of all three at the same price with the same amenities and handling, I'd choose a faster-than-me flappy paddle manual over an AT or true MT.

My commute is 30 miles long, and FUCK TRAFFIC. But the weekends on them twisties and track days (bro) I'd take the faster flappy paddler, and reap the bennies on the ride to work on Monday-Friday.

Don't knock it 'till you've tried it. I tried to love an automatic... and it was a really reliable car for me, that lasted several years, had a lot of good points... but it is soooooooooooo good to be driving a 5-speed again. And I drive a lot (up to 1k miles/week). I've been driving a manual again for almost 2 years now, and am never switching back.

Indeed to lock/stall the converter for launch or burnout

Like a lot of people I lack the funds to have a manual car for weekends and a n auto/dpk for traffic. But I wanted something fun too. Wound up buying an auto. Maybe down the road I will do a transmission swap.

Sometimes I don't wanna put the effort into shifting. But the time I wanna have some fun I miss manual.

Just how bad is your commute? Thankfully, I'm not in stop & go traffic for too much of mine, but when I do get into that situation, I end up making a game of it: giving myself a little gap ahead, and seeing how long I can go at a crawl without touching the clutch or brake, even completely letting off the throttle in 2nd.

If it actually hurts to drive one, that's all the reason in the world for something different.

It's pretty stop and go intensive. But all of the men on my dad's side of my family have lots of back and knee issues.

Its OK. Let it all out.

Tell me about your relationship with your mother.

(but seriously does anyone actually think wanting a DCT means having to turn in your jalop card?)

I live in NYC. I don't think a manual would be entirely ideal.
